Newcastle United fans frustrated with Manquillo’s performance against Cardiff

Newcastle United had another disappointing transfer window, and their Premier League season so far has matched up.

Rafael Benitez’s side lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend of the campaign.

That result was not entirely surprising given the gulf in talent between the two squads.

However, many Newcastle fans would have felt that the team would be able to overcome newly-promoted side Cardiff City in Wales.

The Magpies took a point from a goalless draw, but they should have snatched all three at the death when the team were awarded a penalty.

Kenedy, though, was unable to convert and Benitez’s men had to settle for a stalemate.

During the match, Isaac Hayden was sent off for a reckless challenge on Josh Murphy, but some of the post-match reaction was focused on Javier Manquillo.

The right-back – valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt – struggled to make an impact, and shortly after receiving a yellow card in the first half, he was substituted with an ankle injury and replaced with Hayden.

On Twitter, some Newcastle fans vented their frustration.
