Tottenham failed with deadline-day swoop for Abraham
According to Goal.com, Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham on transfer deadline day earlier this month, but saw their £25m bid rejected.
What’s the story?
Tottenham were linked with a number of strikers during the summer, with head coach Mauricio Pochettino said to be keen to sign a back-up to Harry Kane.
As it transpired, Spurs did not make a single signing ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, which was a big surprise when considering that their Premier League rivals all strengthened.
According to Goal.com, Tottenham made a £25m bid for Chelsea forward Abraham on transfer deadline day, but found that the Blues were unwilling to sell to a league rival.
The striker is expected to turn out for Chelsea’s Under-23 side on Friday night having recovered from a minor injury which has seen him miss the start of the season.
Abraham could yet seal a loan move to the Championship before the end of the month, however, with Aston Villa strongly linked with the 20-year-old in recent days.
Is Abraham good enough for Tottenham?
There is absolutely no question that Abraham is a talent, and Chelsea handed him a new five-year contract last summer before sanctioning a loan move to Swansea City.

The centre-forward managed five Premier League goals for the Swans, and eight in all competitions during a decent season in Wales.
However, Abraham’s best work has come at Championship level – scoring 23 times for Bristol City whilst on loan at the second-tier club during the 2016-17 season.
Tottenham need a striker capable of playing back-up to Kane as uncertainty surrounding the futures of Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen continues, but Chelsea will surely not sell 6ft 3in Abraham to a direct Premier League rival.
What’s more, Abraham is not the answer to the problem for Tottenham, with the youngster’s game not particularly suited to Pochettino’s team.
